I recieved a letter today. Possibly the most life changing letter you could ever imagine. It was a letter accepting me to go the Malaysia (or Indonesia or Guyana if that project falls through) for a whole year to teach either English or outdoor activities. I do not think I have ever been so excited and happy in my life. So at the end of next summer, off I go to learn a new language, be completely immersed in a new culture, take a completely different role in life (be the teacher not the pupil!), be the furthest away from home and be away from home for the longest amount of time.

So this is it. And I realy cannot wait!

Wow! That is so cooool. I would like to do something like this too sometimes. I really loved my trip to Vietnam (was there for a month) and it was my first time in a foreign country. I hope you love your time in Malaysia and your new living quarters and city. Good luck!

Thank you ^^ I would love to go to Vietnam, but there is so much of Malaysia to explore ...
I have been to a few foreign countries (Portugal & Tenerife I dont remember, but I went to France, Belgium and Italy relatively recently) but never out of Europe so this will be very exciting!
I am hoping that I will be posted in some rural area, as I am a complete country bumpkin and wouldnt last a week in a big city!
Thanks so much :D

Haha, I guess one point of advice is: if you get bad food poisoning, go to a doctor. I tried to ride it out when I was on vacation in Vietnam, but I felt like I was dying by two days later of no eating and not being able to hold anything in. But when I got some cipro and flagyl pills, I literally almost immediately began to feel better and quickly recovered.

And I am a BIG FOODIE, so I was out eating my way through the country again once I was all right, haha.

So yea, keep an eye on any strange symptoms. Try to do your homework on exotic diseases endemic in the area. Malaria, filariasis, whatever. I don't know how the crime rate is where you're gonna live, but yea, just be safe and everything!

Thanks for the advice - seeing as though I am going to be there for a year, I am pretty much gauranteed to get something foul. We have good medical insurance whilst abroad, so I should be ok :)

Same, I love eating :D I think there are three jabs that you have to get before going abroad, but I need to write to my GP and ask :D I dont think it will be very high, but I am a pretty carefull person :D

For my trip, I had to take malaria pills and a hepatitis shot. I was scared, but I didn't even feel it, yay! I guess it was a really small amount.
